Jeep Compass Dashboard Symbols

Jeep Compass   Dashboard warning lights have been around for a long time, and most drivers know the classics: check engine light, low fuel indicator, and ABS. But vehicle technologies are rapidly changing, adding new dashboard lights to the mix.

As a result, you may find yourself driving your Jeep Compass around Philadelphia when an unfamiliar warning light appears. Check out this guide from Matt Blatt Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram to discover what some unique Jeep Compass dashboard symbols mean. More importantly, find out what you need to do when they show up while you're traveling through Center City, South Jersey, or Delaware County.

Schedule Service

Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Warning Light

What it looks like: A red light showing a lightning bolt inside two backward parentheses

What it means: The connection between your gas pedal and the engine throttle is electronically controlled, which usually offers more reliable performance. However, this complex system can sometimes run into issues. In that case, this warning light will come on-and your vehicle may not accelerate as expected.

What to do: If the light comes on while you're driving, park in a safe place and restart your engine. The light should turn off. If it doesn't, you should still be able to drive-but schedule service as soon as possible. If the light starts flashing, your vehicle requires immediate service.

Transmission Temperature Warning Light

Jeep Compass Dashboard SymbolsWhat it looks like: A red light showing a thermometer inside a circular gear

What it means: Your transmission fluid is too hot. This may happen if you're towing a heavy trailer or otherwise making your Compass work harder than normal.

What to do: Pull over, bringing the vehicle to a safe stop. Put the transmission in park or neutral, but don't turn the vehicle off. Instead, let it idle until the light turns off. Then, you can resume normal driving.

Service Stop/Start System Warning Light

What it looks like: A red light showing the capital letter "A" circled by an arrow and followed by an exclamation point

What it means: Many new Compass models are equipped with engine stop/start, which helps save fuel by turning your engine off when you're at a red light. This warning light will appear if there's something wrong with this system.

What to do: You can still drive your Compass, but you won't get the extra fuel-saving benefits from the stop/start system. Contact your service technician to take a look at the system and resolve the error.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System Warning Light

Jeep Compass Dashboard SymbolsWhat it looks like: A red light showing an exclamation point inside what looks like a horseshoe

What it means: This light comes on when one or more of your tires is significantly low on air. If it's flashing, there's a problem with the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

What to do: Check your tire inflation as soon as safely possible. Add air if needed to restore them to the recommended air pressure. Then, keep an eye on your tire pressure to make sure it stays at the correct level. If there's an issue with the TPMS, contact your service provider to check the sensor.
